ChumBonus: Who Do You Know?

ChumBonus is a company founded by a small group of Consulting Professionals with HR, sales and technology backgrounds who are developing a better mousetrap. We think we have a cool way of cutting through the rats nest of job boards out there that will excite clients, help many and perhaps give back a little too. Sounds good right? Well, here’s how it will work.

Clients will post jobs for free on ChumBonus. With each posting they will include an amount of money they are willing to pay to the person who finds them the candidate they ultimately hire. The clients decide the amount and only pay when they actually make a hire so the model is success based not pay to play like the major boards.

From the client’s perspective, it is like extending your employee referral program to everyone with internet access. We like to call those people The Crowd in keeping with Jeff Howe’s term Crowdsourcing that he coined in a June 2006 article in Wired magazine. The Crowd knows everyone and everything including who is looking for a job or needs a better one.

The challenge is, how do you get The Crowd to take action? The answer is you pay them.

Those people in the crowd who register on the site and refer people are called referrers. Why are they there? Well, they want to help their friends find jobs and make a little money on the side. So they search for jobs looking for ones their friends could fill. When they find one, they send their friend an email with a link to the job description via the ChumBonus site. If their friend follows the link, applies and gets hired, they get the bonus. Get it? A Bonus for your Chum, ChumBonus. Easy right?

Want more? Charities are hurting for money in the current economy and we want to help. When a referrer registers on the site, they can select a charity they might like to contribute to if they get a bonus. Don’t see a cause you believe in, recommend one to us. When you get a bonus, you decide how much goes to the charity and we handle the payment. The charity verifies your payment on the backend.

So, clients will incent The Crowd to refer prospective candidates to their openings and only pay for successful hires. Referrers will make a little extra cash and maybe save the planet. Who loses? No one.
